The hitch has a great reputation, and the workmanship seems to bear that out. My disappointments are that I only got 3 bolts to secure it in place instead of 4, and there was no fishwire delivered with kit, even though the site says it is delivered when required by your vehicle.It was easier to buy a replacement bolt locally and I made a fishwire myself to get the job done. But I shouldn't have had to do either. I also bought the harness from Curt, and the instructions were not clear for the 2026 Subaru Crosstrek Hybrid. Thankfully I found a YouTube video for the Wilderness and it got me through.

Good price, fast shipping, and it fit my 2026 Crosstrek perfectly. I was a apprehensive about installing it on a 3-week old car, but it went fine. The video recommends a step drill, but a decent bit looks to be $50+. I was able to make "slots" in just a few minutes with a small Dremel and 1/8 carbide metal carving bit (no need to enlarge the hole, just a little extra width side-to-side to let the spacer and bolt head pass). I made two 4.5" blocks with lengths of 2x4 in steps, backed the car onto the block to get a little more room, applied parking brake and chocked the front wheels. I was able to get the hitch in place by myself using a couple of hooks and ropes to position it close enough to lead the fish wires through and then push it onto the bolts and secure with a nut. Definitely possible solo, but get a helper if you can, it would be much easier. Holes all lined up. Haven't driven yet, but there looks to be good clearance between hitch and muffler, hangers, etc., so I don't expect any rattles.

Excellent quality. Install kit, instructions and available utube videos showing relatively easy install. I would still need risers, torque wrench, stepped drill bit and a learning curve. So I decided to get it installed by a local pro. He was done in 30 minutes! $150 well spent. My Crosstrek is ready to go.

Instructions were very good. Hitch took about 2 hours to install myself. It only took that long because I second guessed myself and had to fish the plate out only to realize I had put it in correctly.

At the time I purchased this there was an option for an eTrailer branded hitch made by Curt that featured a matte black finish. That one appeared to be most popular because the Crosstrek has matte black trim. However, I went with this glass black Curt because I noticed in eTrailer's excellent installation videos that this receiver hitch's cross tube was tucked up higher (than the eTrailer version) so that it was almost completely hidden from view from behind.

The gloss black finish was scratched up in a few places during shipping, because the box had opened up during shipment. Fortunately, none of the scratches were visible after installation, which was good!

Installation was straight forward as shown in the eTrailer installation video. Do yourself a favor and purchase a step drill bit sized for at least 1-1/8" diameter to enlarge the the two holes. It's also much easier to install the hitch with 2 people.

I gave it 4 stars due to insufficient protection of the finish during shipping. Otherwise, I am very satisfied with the quality, installation, and value! I love the videos eTrailer produces for evaluation and installation!

Installation on my 2026 Subaru Crosstrek went fairly quickly. We viewed several installation videos online including one from Etrailer. We backed the Crosstrek up on car ramps which gave us plenty of room to work under the car. We followed the instructions carefully and didn't lose any bolts inside the frame rails!

Quality product, easy installation by viewing the video instructions. Did it by myself I used a plastic milk crate and two 2X4's to position hitch into place. It lined up perfectly. The wiring harness was even easier by simply watching the installation video.

This is a very nice rack for the money. I don’t have access to a lift so I had to install this laying underneath my car by myself. Here are a couple of tips for installing that aren’t in the instructions. When widening the holes, do it side to side, not front to back. That makes it easier to feed the bolts through. And when lifting the rack into place, leave the bolts on the driver’s side up in the frame until the rack is in place. It’s a tight fit on that side and the rack will hang up on the bolts if they’re down. If you’re installing the rack on your own like I did, using a floor jack and a block of wood was a huge help in pushing the rack against the frame and holding it in place while I got the nuts on.

    Hey Bryce, That is a great question! The Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver part # C22MJ uses a standard 1/2" - 13 x 1-1/2 carriage bolt that has a head diameter that ranges from 1 1/16" or 1 3/32". Also, because the spacer blocks used for this hitch are 1" wide x 3" long, I suggest widening the hole in the frame to around 1 1/8" or 1 1/4" wide.
